eBook Publishing – Be Part of the Revolution
by Deborah Greenspan
Today, we will live in the middle of a new kind of revolution–a communication revolution. Every day, we participate in it and many even profit by it. Through an almost infinite number of methods including ebook publishing, this revolution can work for us.
The communication revolution began when Gutenberg printed the bible 400 years ago, making it accessible to anyone, not just priests and the very rich. It wasn’t ebook publishing, but it was the first time ordinary people had a chance to read, to learn, and to develop opinions. Today, through POD publishing, we can print a book in minutes and new technology lets us send an eBook around the world in a heartbeat. And we’re not even talking about computers, the internet, phones, faxes, blogs, movies, cgi, television, video games, or any of the other faces of the digital revolution. All these marvels of communication would have been seen as magic at the start of this journey, but today, we take it all for granted.
Today, because of this revolution in communication, everyone has a say, and we can all express ourselves and share our ideas and gifts with the world. Whether we write a blog, comment on the work of others, or post pictures of our crafts or our children, the digital age has made us all equally able to communicate. With ebook publishing, we can write our own books, tell our own stories, share our deepest feelings, let the rest of the world know what we’ve learned, and leave a legacy for our children and grandchildren. We do not have to belong to a special class to do this. We do not have to be rich. Ebook publishing is open to anyone.
All we need for ebook publishing today is the skill to express ourselves in ways that others find pleasing and the wherewithal to pay publishers and editors to polish our work, make it attractive, and set it up for distribution on sites like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Google Play and more. Ebook publishing is how ordinary men and women share their stories with the world.
It took a revolution in communication to make eBook publishing possible, but at least–as far as we know–it was bloodless, and no one had to die.
